happy birthday daddy!

we helped daddy celebrate his birthday last week (the big 34). grammy and aunt kasey wanted to take him to dinner, so they came up the sunday before and we devoured some lupe tortillas. guess what mason said when we told him it was daddy's birthday? 

"i want cake!"

hmm... mommy didn't have one. oops. (to be fair, brad's birthday wasn't until thursday, but that's difficult for a two year old to understand. 

a quick trip the store later, we were in business. mommy managed to get a photo of the cake, but not of anyone else, including the birthday boy. clearly, brad's old age is affecting my memory.

a bright (and early) surprise

a couple of weeks ago, pappy planned a hunting trip near dallas. conveniently, the woodlands is between pappy's house and dallas, so mason was surprised by an early visit from pappy. emphasis on the early! the plan was for him to arrive a little after 7 am so he could be there when mason woke up and have breakfast with him. pappy arrived at 6:40!

mason woke up a little early and had fun with pappy for about an hour before pappy headed off to play with the ducks. it was a fun surprise and it was very nice to see pappy on a "non-traditional" day.

big bed for a big boy

after a couple of weeks of mason climbing in and out of his bed pretty routinely (he's had several prior escapes, but this time it didn't lose its appeal), we decided to transition him to a toddler bed. we ordered the conversion kit before christmas and it finally arrived this week.

we are pleased to report that we are now on our fourth night and mason has slept in his bed all night long all four nights. yay mason! he hasn't put up a fight at all and after reading him a book or two in bed, he rolls over and goes to sleep. such a big boy!

mommy got a new lens for christmas, so we took a trip to the park to let mason run around and mommy attempt to catch a few shots of our boy in action.
