apparently our cinco de mayo festivities (ie staying at home, feeding mason puffs) were too much for our little guy. at school wednesday, he started acting funny... as in coughing, refusing food (this has NEVER happened!), and taking an hour and 45 minute nap (also NEVER happened at school). they called me at 4:45 to let me know his temperature was 100.9. i immediately called the doctor and we headed straight there for our pediatrician's after hours clinic. mason cried the whole way (also NEVER happened before). by the time we arrived at 5:30, his temperature had risen to 102. not a good sign. with him wailing, the doctor checked him out and after a flu swab test and a blood draw, ruled out swine flu (or any other kind) and any bacterial infections. the diagnosis? a virus - projected to last 3 to 4 days. most likely mason picked up the same junk brad and i have been fighting for the last couple of weeks. finally, the sick train goes both ways!
the timing couldn't have been worse, with me having 3 big meetings/presentations today and brad having a mandatory meeting on the other side of town this morning. pappy to the rescue! my dad graciously agreed to be at our house at 6:45 am so we could make it to everything on time. he played, fed, diapered, and generally loved on our sick little one all day until brad could make it home. (thanks, pappy!)
mason seems to be feeling a bit better, but was still running a little fever today. time will tell if we get to make it to the scheduled baby dedication at church saturday night. it's a bit disappointing that our chances aren't great to make it, but between the fear that he'd get 60+ other babies sick and the fact that we dedicated him to God in our hearts the moment we found out we were pregnant, i'm sure it will be fine either way. unfortunately, our church only does this once a year, so it's now, or chance it next year when he's running around on the stage like a wild banshee...
while it seems to us that there's never a dull moment, we wouldn't have it any other way. get well soon baby!

Sorry to hear that guys... I've heard the first cold can be stressful - I can only imagine dealing with the first fever during such a busy week. Hope y'all can make it to the weekend without anymore drama, and that Mason recovers quickly with all the love and care he's getting.
i know how much anxiety these things can bring on but hopefully he's acting close to his normal seld and will be feeling better soon. have you gotten one of the digital thermometers you can swipe across the forehead? i originally thought, "What a waste of money". But after Eden's first fever virus and being able to check her temp while she slept, I was hooked. Just with I had one where the little screen lit up. Anyhow, I know that wasn't asked for but thought I'd pass it along in case it helps. We'll be thinking of y'all!
