i survived. day one alone with mason, that is. brad officially started back to work after the hurricane hiatus today and i managed to make it through the day without harming the dog, baby, or the chainsaw-wielding neighbor who decided today was the day to chop down the tree in his yard. for the record, i did get a shower - at 4:30 pm. :)
in all honesty, the day wasn't that bad. (i'm hoping i didn't just jinx tomorrow). mason ate. mason pottied. mason slept in 10 minute increments -- we need to work on that one. cassie ate. cassie pottied. cassie slept. kammy ate. kammy pottied. kammy did not sleep -- we hope this one improves too.
it's amazing to me how i can be busy all day long - not getting more than a fleeting moment to myself - yet still wonder where the day went as the bottles pile up in the sink, dinner does not get cooked, laundry is not folded, and a host of other household chores go unaccomplished. but today is just our first day. perhaps i'll get more proficient as the days tick by. or maybe i'll just enjoy this precious time with my son and stop worrying about the rest...
"i know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. that everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil - this is the gift of God." - ecclesiastes 3:12-13

When you figure out that system you let me know. Most of my days alone have been going great. Except today I decided to be lazy and do absolutely nothing. I rather enjoyed laying around with Daniel, catering to his every whim. Don't worry, shower time will come earlier too. I had one around 1:30 today! :o)

It's gets better. . .somewhat. I say that, and I am currently running on very little sleep for the last. .. oh, 4 and a half years. ;-)
Household chores can be done anytime -- now is the only time you can cuddle with your adorable newborn. Just enjoy yourself. I found the best way to get a good shower was to distract with a Baby Einstein DVD, they are just entranced with the bright colors and sounds. Both my boys would watch it which gets you about 20 minutes.
