mason and i were on our own this weekend as brad attended an umpire training from friday night through sunday night. we visited our dear friends kimberly and davon in lumberton on saturday for ryan's 3-year old birthday party -- my first 2-hour drive solo mission. i was a little nervous about it, but we did great. and today, mason and i shopped a little, then hit up our friend wade's 30th birthday party. what can i say, we like to party! we also like daddy to be home. i have new appreciation for how much brad helps out after doing everything myself this weekend - all the laundry, all the cooking, all the dishes, all the bottles, all the diapers... you get the idea. i need a weekend from my weekend!
brad, on the other hand, was busy practicing his "you're out" moves with the pros. the training was taught by several prestigious umpires, including 2 pros, one of whom ump'ed the 2008 all-star game and this year's world series (not the one who made all the bone-head calls)! brad is hoping that this training will put him one step closer to getting to call college games and he made quite a few good contacts to start down that path. he's hoping to start umping junior college games this year and then move into a conference after that. sounds fun except for the whole abandoning-the-family-for-11-weeks part.

I was sooooo very glad you and Mason made the road trip to Lumberton! I've been hoping to meet him in person for what seems like a very long time. Even though the pictures you post are adorable, they do not do him justice. Mason is not only handsome, his precious personality is obvious at first glance. Thanks for sharing him with us on Sat. Hope we get to visit again soon. I'll let you know when the pool opens next spring so he can show me his favorite strokes.
