You never outgrow superheroes...

These costumes may be from 2 halloweens ago, but it just goes to show that you never outgrow superheroes!

Out of the mouths of babes...

A recent conversation at Lupe Tortilla during a game of "I spy":

Mommy: I spy with my little eye something grey!

Mason: Daddy's hair!

Daddy:

Can't leave out brother...

Silly boy! Not sure where he learned to make duck lips, but he sure knows how to strike a pose!

I mustache you a question...

How adorable am I?

Mason posing with his teacher Ms. Amy on the 100th day of school. I didn't see the memo on dressing up until 9 pm the night before... Turns out we're more equipped to look 40 than we are 100 (except for the missing teeth)! The mustache started out quite conservative, but Mason asked Ms. Amy to add some flair during the day. Such a ham!

Consistency

Unlike her mama's blogging habits, this girl is consistent. Two years in and she's still an ankle crosser :)

Routine night...

Straight up silly!

Birthday road trip

Instead of a big birthday party this year for Mason, we took a family road trip to San Antonio. We had a blast!

We left mid morning on Friday and had to make a couple of stops before actually heading out of town. We made it to the hotel around 3 pm and checked in.

The monkeys were very excited to be out of the car...

The first night we met up with my grandparents, aunt 'Nelle, and aunt Claudia for dinner. We managed to get one semi-decent photo with the kiddos and their only set of great-grandparents.

The next day, we hit up SeaWorld. It was awesome! I was hoping there would be enough there to entertain both kiddos and it didn't disappoint! It also helped that we went the weekend after Labor Day weekend, so the summer crowds had significantly thinned out. We stayed from 10:30 am to 5 pm with no meltdowns! And here are the only 2 photos we took that day!

After the long day we ate dinner by the hotel pool and cooled off a bit before heading to bed. Mason konked out quickly while Madison was wired until after 10! Not cool, sister...

On Sunday we headed to Natural Bridge Safari before making our way back home. I hadn't been there in more than 20 years. The last time I was there, a moody zebra bit a hunk out of the door of my family's Good Times van while my mom frantically tried to roll the window up. He was plotting with the ostrich who stuck his head in the ground in the middle of the road right in front of us, blocking our path. True story.

The place has grown since then, but the animals are the same. We steered clear of the zebras, but Brad did try to give me a heart attack by feeding an animal out of his hand while reaching across me. When he ran out of food, the animal stuck his head in my car (panic filled moment), but thankfully, instead of eating our children, it just sneezed all over my leg and dashboard. :/

We took a few photos from the safari adventure...

What a weekend! Happy birthday Mason!!

Shoe (and sock) lover

This girl LOVES shoes. And socks. She is not particular about whose shoes and socks she wears. If you leave them anywhere near her, she considers them fair game - and she doesn't need help putting them on.

Check out our little fashionista...

Can you write that down?

More car convos with Mason...

Mason: When can we go to the big church again?

Background info: Our church has two buildings - our regular service is in the small building but our small group meets in the big building. We've been on hiatus for the last month from our weekly meetings.

Mommy: We're going next Monday.

Mason: In the morning?

Mommy: No, we'll go after school.

Mason: Can we eat supper there?

Mommy: Yes, we will probably eat supper there.

Mason: OK good. Can we pick up chick-a-play and eat it there.

Mommy: Yes, we can probably pick up Chick-fil-a to eat next Monday.

Mason: Can you write that down?

Mommy: Are you afraid I'm going to forget?

Mason: Yes! Please write it down because I really want to go to the big church and eat chick-a-play.

Well alright then. Apparently this old lady can't remember things :)

Car talk

While driving home from school yesterday, Mason and I were discussing an odd assortment of topics. Somehow I mentioned that daddy was a man and Mason protested. "Mom, stop calling him that!," he said.

"Mason, daddy is a man," I said.

"Do you like to be called an old lady?"

"Um, no."

"Then stop calling daddy a man. He doesn't like it either."

Well ok then. Not sure how that came to be, but it did provide a good giggle for the rest of the ride. :)

Don't ask

Sometimes you just don't ask questions. For instance... When you find your child watering the backyard with the hose wrapped through his shorts.

Or when you find your daughter dancing in the den wearing her brother's superman undies....

Why yes, our kiddos are ca-razy!

If only...

If only adults would be as thrilled with rub-on tattoos as Mason is... Think about all the bad decisions that could be reversed with a little baby oil on a cotton ball! ;)

Child labor

Groceries are expensive and these kiddos don't.stop.eating! So everyone has to earn their keep around here! I'm kidding, of course, but she did do a pretty good job on the entry way floors!

Please don't ask why she is missing a shoe and her pants - it was a wild evening.

For a smile, check out the original swiffer man - who knew we've owned this thing so long!

Off to the races

Little bit loves cars. But what she loves even more than cars is the car bucket... as in climbing in the bucket. This weekend Mason decided to take her for a spin around the house in it. It seemed fun at the time, but now she can't walk by the car bucket without dumping it out, climbing in, and demanding a ride. Let's just say that mommy and daddy have both taken turns hiding the car bucket outside!

Lesson learned...

If you were wondering how much a standard size 4 diaper holds, the answer is approximately 14 ounces. Unfortunately, Madison drank about 16 ounces of milk I between diaper changes on our trip. Oops :/

An interview with Mason

After seeing a slew of preschool interviews on Facebook, I couldn't resist conducting one of my own tonight with Mason:

Me: How old is mommy?
Mason: 16

Me: What is mommy's favorite thing to do?
Mason: Hang out with us!

Me: What is mommy's favorite food?
Mason: Carrots

Me: What is the best thing mommy cooks?
Mason: Corndogs

Me: Where does mommy go when you're at school?
Mason: Work

Me: What does mommy do at work?
Mason: Make money!

Me: What does mommy like to do to relax?
Mason: Read

Me: How much does mommy love you?
Mason: All the time, a million times. The mostest!

His answers were surprisingly accurate (except for being 16 and loving carrots!) Love that boy!

Chip monster

It's snack time! Madison munched on a few animal crackers while Mason snuck out the Baked Lays. The next thing we know, little bit inched down to the other end of the couch to crunch some chips. She wasn't sure what to think about sour cream and onion, but she was definitely posing like a big girl!

Brush-y, brush-y, brush-y

Madison's current favorite activity...

Unfortunately, she does not always prefer to use HER toothbrush :/

Just another Saturday night

We color superhero posters. We build tents. We host dance parties in the kitchen. And apparently we send really cool, nearly naked, manly butterflies into space...

Just another fun-filled Saturday night at our house!

Note to Mason's future wife: you can't say you weren't warned! :)

Captivated

I'm still not sure what they were looking at, but it must have been good to have a captive audience like this!
